The design process is complex and highly personal. To me, all good design starts with listening. Listening will allow an architect to gain a deeper understanding of the constraints, desires and requirements needed for a successful design. I believe, listening not only includes the voices of the client, the city, and the public desire but also goes beyond and requires engaging with the site and respecting the physical, historical and social economical environment of the site. Through listening, the architect will be able to predict challenges and design responsibility while simultaneously knowing when to challenge rules and push creativity forward.
